The God They Cannot Contain..!

Why should anybody be frightened of Christians? We are barely 2.3 percent of India’s population. We do not have the numbers to dominate elections. We do not have armies marching behind us. Most of our institutions are schools, hospitals, homes for the aged and centres caring for those whom society has forgotten.

Then why the fear?

Perhaps they are not frightened of 2.3 percent Christians. They are frightened of an uncontainable Christ.

Two thousand years ago, Herod tried to kill Him as a baby. He failed.

Religious leaders tried to silence Him. They failed.

Pilate tried to wash his hands of Him. He failed.

The Roman Empire nailed Him to a cross, sealed His tomb and stationed soldiers outside it.

They failed.

On the third day, the stone rolled away.

Through history, emperors have banned His name, dictators have burned His Bible, regimes have imprisoned His followers and mobs have attacked His churches. Yet Jesus continues to walk through locked doors.

That is what unsettles earthly power.

You cannot contain a God who needs no microphone to speak.

You cannot arrest a God who enters the human heart.

You cannot frighten a God who has already defeated death.

Today, as conversion laws tighten in Maharashtra and similar legislation advances in Goa, Christians must be absolutely clear. We do not support conversion through force, fraud or inducement. Jesus never forced anyone to follow Him. He simply said, “Come, follow me.” Matthew 4:19.

But Christ also commanded us, “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” Mark 16:15.

That command was not issued by a government. Therefore, it cannot be cancelled by one.

When Peter and John were ordered to stop speaking about Jesus, they replied, “We cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.” Acts 4:20.

They did not riot. They did not threaten. They simply refused to become silent.

That must be our answer today.

Let every Christian obey the law, document every act of service and oppose injustice peacefully. But let no Christian allow fear to close a church, silence a prayer or stop a hand from reaching out to the suffering.

Remember Daniel in the lions’ den.

Remember the three young men in the furnace.

Remember Paul singing in prison.

Remember the disciples emerging from hiding after Pentecost.

The Bible is filled with rulers who believed they could contain God. Today, their thrones are gone, their empires are history and many of their names are remembered only because they tried to stop Him.

But Jesus remains.

So do not be afraid, little flock.

They are not frightened of our percentage. They are frightened that when Christians forgive their attackers, love their neighbours, educate children, heal the sick and serve the abandoned, somebody may ask, “Why do you do this?”

And the answer will be one name.

Jesus.

The name above every name. The name no law can erase.

The God nobody has ever been able to contain..!

Mighty challenge to a mighty government from a daring journalist.

  4. Absolutely true.
They fear JESUS, King of Heaven and Earth.
They are paralysed knowing that God created heaven and earth.
They know HE will come again.
They know He has said “vengeance is mine”
Thy Kingdom come, my Jesus, my Lord.
Keep us strong in faith as we glorify your name through our words and deeds. proclaiming the good news.

  6. Powerful reminder: Christianity has never depended on numbers or political power. Laws may regulate actions, but they cannot silence faith, prayer, or conscience. Let Christians obey the law, reject coercion, stand against injustice peacefully, and continue to serve and share the Gospel without fear.
    Jesus remains.

  11. Thanks Bob. I think this law is meant to divert the public’s attention from the youth demanding answers from a dumb govt

  12. A courageous column! And a call to be faithful followers of a living God. One who promises to walk with us always, through every circumstance and situation.
Thank you Bobby for this very bold and timely reminder given what is going on today.

  13. Governments and legal systems have not been able to shut down the love of Christ. He has outlasted Communism in the former Soviet States and Germany, he will outlast this too. Let his name be lifted above every oppressive system as we pray that his kingdom comes here as it is in heaven.

  14. This is simply a brilliant article to counter the falsehood that is permeated all over India. Just shared it on my fb page. Keep writing brother. May His name be praised.

  15. Very well said. How can these few Indians instead of focussing on major issues and the welfare of the people are now investing their time after the Christians. Very soon the whole of India will speak only the name of Jesus. Our God does things in an amazing way. Let’s wait and watch what Jesus will further do to our Indian brethren. They will soon fall in love with Jesus. He attracts all who speak His name. He’s a gentleman – never imposes His force but only pours His love.

  16. Wow!!! So well written. This is exactly what we all want to shout from our rooftops… amidst the ongoing false narrative, helplessness and frustration. Thank you!!

  17. I’m greatly impressed and encouraged to see someone sharing such daring and truthful reflections! I have shared this with many people on my list!

  18. Praise the Lord for His Word is everlasting and will not pass away (Mathew 24:35). What is happening around us is exactly what Jesus says in Mathew 24:9. In fact, Mathew 24 is unfolding in our generation, right now all over the earth. We must and have to be on our guard. Jesus is coming very soon, in fact He is at the door. Maranatha 🙏
