Yesterday, I wrote about Jemima Rodrigues and her unbeaten hundred and twenty-seven runs that took India to the World Cup final. The column drew a flood of responses, and nearly every reader spoke about how humble she was, how touching it was to see a young player publicly thank her Lord Jesus.
But that was not the real point. There’s a deeper message behind that innings, a message every believer needs to hear.
When Jemima stood before cameras and microphones and said, “I thank my Lord Jesus Christ,” she wasn’t performing. She was proclaiming. What we saw on that cricket field was a public testimony of God’s mighty hand upon one who had already learned to thank Him again and again, before.
Many of us, sitting in our pews Sunday after Sunday, pray for great blessings, for success, for breakthroughs, for miracles that will lift us high. But the truth is, God is watching how we handle His smaller blessings first.
In Luke 16:10, Jesus said, “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much.” Jemima’s 127 was the “much.” But long before that, she had proved faithful in the little, which was, thanking God for her practice sessions, for every run in domestic cricket, for every door that opened and even for the ones that stayed shut.
And that’s what God looks for. For those who will glorify Him in the ordinary moments before He lifts them to extraordinary heights. When you thank Him for the little healings, the unnoticed provisions, the quiet guidance, you’re telling Heaven, “I recognize Your hand even in the smallest detail of my life.”
But where do you thank Him? Inside the church only? In a closed family gathering? Or out there where everybody can hear? Because when you glorify God in the open spaces, and in public, Heaven listens joyfully.
Some of us never see our “hundred and twenty seven.” We pray, but we forget to praise. We praise but only in private. God is looking for acknowledgment.
And He knows that if you lift His name for a single run, you’ll surely lift it for a century.
So the question today is — are you ready for your 127? Are you ready for that big blessing, that mighty breakthrough, that moment when the world will watch and Heaven will smile? Then start now. Thanking God for the small, in private and in public.
Because that’s how you tell God, “I will always glorify you.”
And when He knows that, He will place the bat in your hand and whisper, “Now play. The field is Yours.”
So don’t wait for the stadium moment. Start in your phone calls, in your talks with colleagues and even strangers.
And then when your 127 comes, you’ll know that our God above was watching all along, and loving the fact you were acknowledging Him publicly for all the singles, two’s, fours and sixes He gave you, before He gave you your one hundred and twenty seven..!
