Are You Ready for Your Chapatti Lady?

Since I’m known as a guy who’s got a soft spot for animals, I get followed round a wee bit by these four- legged friendly canines, and sometimes have a hard time chasing them away when they get overzealous and try to nibble some part of my leg, fingers or other body part. I’ve still got my last anti-rabies injection to be taken, because one bite last week got through my pant and drew blood.
But I ramble, and today, I couldn’t draw the attention of a normally very friendly brown dog!
I tried, after all she did know me, as I scratched her ears, and fondled her head and even allowed her to nuzzle her head on my knee, when I sat on the bench in the park after my walk every morning. Today she hardly looked at me, as I made all the cooing noises you make for these stray creatures to rush to you, and then I realized the reason why: She was waiting for the chapatti lady!
The chapatti lady was a tall woman who strolled into the park every morning with a bundle of yesterday’s chapattis which she fed to the dogs who milled round her in a disciplined manner. Every dog got its share, she saw to it, and some of them like my friend picked up their portions and ran to feed their little pups.
No snapping of fingers, no doggy noise of mine, could take her attention away from being ready for the lady’s arrival. She came, my canine friend got her fair share and a few minutes later, she was out, saw me, sped up to my jogging form, and ran alongside. She’d got her meal; she was now ready for my attentions!
As I stopped and fondled her ears and saw her big eyes looking at me intently, I realized what she had was fixed focus. Her meal came first, my affections came second. She could survive without them, but with it as a bonus, it quite made her day.
Her priorities were absolutely spot-on!
Meal time was not Bob time, it was total, concentrated attention on the Lady.
Maybe there’s something for us here: How easy for us to meander through the day, lose focus from our goals, spending time on things which should be done during leisure.
Our eyes shift, our mind wanders and the chapatti lady walks by, while we are lost with activities which won’t put food in our belly or help our careers, as our ears are fondled, our heads stroked!
It’s Monday morning, the weekend’s past and so also it’s relaxed moments, now like my four legged friend, use the rest of the week, ready for your chapatti lady..!
