Something I loved doing and still love, is directing some of the plays I’ve written.
But even as I directed the same, I would always see a difference in how members of the cast treated my directional skills. Those who I had directed before, would be like putty in my hands, whereas the new ones who had come to act under me for the first time, would be the ones who took time to gradually trust me, and allow me to mould them.
I don’t blame the new ones.
As you put a play together, all that the cast sees are bits and pieces of action and dialogue on stage. On any particular day you decide to rehearse Act Two, Scene One, and on another day, Act One. The actors cannot comprehend what is happening. There is no sequence, no flow of the story, and all they feel is that they are part of a jigsaw puzzle, and have no idea which part of the puzzle they fit in to.
But as the director you know.
You can see uncertainty and even sometimes resentment in some of the actors and I’ve been through situations were even rebellion takes place. Once very recently, I was directing two plays for two schools simultaneously and one school, dropped me quite unceremoniously, whereas the other school, even though at times confused and bewildered trusted me and went along.
At the end of it, the school that trusted the director had in their words, “One of the most wonderful productions ever enacted!”
They trusted the director.
Very often I tell new actors who have joined the cast, and who hesitate to trust me, to either see a video of an old performance, or read a book I’ve written. Some of them take the trouble to do so, and then I have less trouble shaping them.
Others don’t and remain a constant source of irritation, till I either throw them out or they leave.
But those who have trusted in the director, have finally got a worthwhile experience till now.
Now why am I telling you this?
Well, when we go through life, we can either go through it, trusting in our inexperienced direction or putting our full life in God’s hands.
There’s hesitance at the beginning, and we wonder what the end result will be, and God looks kindly at us, and says, “You can read my Book!”
“What’s in it?” you ask.
“Directions and end results, with hundreds of success stories!”
Today, as I watched snippets of videos of my play in Goa, which came off very well, I nod at my Director, yes, who also I had to trust as He gives me direction every day, and tell Him, “Lord, if only the world would trust in You, the Director, what a wonderful play their lives would be..!”

Lovely message.
…..just imagine, if we all have one nation, one poll. One Director.
An impartial, honest leader to guide us through a play called “life.”
Instead, we have several Directors who are clueless, corrupt and unjust dividing our nation and constitution into jigsaw pieces based on religion.
