Stepping Out In Faith..!

My favourite scene and one I call to mind whenever my faith is low, is of the fleeing Israelites crossing the Red Sea, using a path God has made for them through the treacherous waves! But before the sea parted Moses stood in front of the Red Sea. Just behind he can hear the sound of advancing Egyptians on their horses and chariots bearing down, spears advanced at his defenseless group. He stares at the Red Sea; he knows God will provide a way; and then God tells him to lift his staff.
And only when Moses lifts his staff do the seas part.
Only when we take the first step in faith do miracles happen.
I always remember the story of a boy whose village prayed for rain: The next day he came to school with an open umbrella. “Are you mad?” asked his teacher and classmates. “I’m not, you all must be,” he said, “if you spent so much time praying for rain, shouldn’t you come expecting it?”
A little girl had been shopping with her mother and suddenly it was pouring outside.
The people waited, some patiently, others irritated because nature had messed up their hurried day and then they heard a voice: It was so sweet it broke the hypnotic trance they were all caught in. “Mom, let’s run through the rain,” said the little girl.
“What?” her mother asked.
“Let’s run through the rain!” she repeated.
“No, we’ll wait until it slows down a bit,” her mom replied. The little girl waited another minute and repeated, “Mom, let’s run through the rain.”
“We’ll get sick if we do,” her mother said.
“No, we won’t, Mom,” she said, “I just prayed and remember what you said this morning when you were talking to Daddy about his cancer, you said, “God can get us through anything if we believe!”
The entire crowd stopped dead silent. No one came or left in the next few minutes. Her mom paused, thought for a moment and then smiled, “Okay,” she said, “you’re right. Let’s run through the rain and allow God to look after us! Maybe our faith needs some washing!”
And off they ran. The people stood watching, smiling and laughing as the two darted past the cars and, yes, through the puddles. They got soaked. But soon all the people followed screaming and laughing like little children all the way to their cars.
Suddenly in their childlikeness they rejoiced in the real grasping of stepping out in faith!”
And as Moses’ people walked through the towering waves on either side I’m sure he grinned with the joy of realizing that God needed his little step before He could do big things for them!
Are you standing before treacherous waves, afraid to step out?
