Piloting You Above the Clouds..!

I sat in my seat next to the window, in the airbus that was taking me from Bangalore to Bombay the other day, and heard the voice of the pilot over the PA system, “Ladies and gentlemen,” he said, “We will be hitting turbulence for a while, but trust me, I will take you up, just above the clouds!”
I looked out of my window, and all I saw was a huge expanse of grey. It was not nice to look at and I shuddered, as there were even streaks of threatening lightning, and the aircraft rocked a bit. I heard a passenger sighing worriedly behind me, and in the seat next to me, was sure the woman was tense as her fingers gripped the armrest tightly and brushed my elbow.
And then I felt the airbus lift. It fought the clouds, it cut through the grey and like a knife went through the threatening turbulence and suddenly I saw the most spectacular sight: There over the clouds, the sun was shining, bright and happy. It peeped in through the window, as if telling all of us, “Hey, I was up there all the time, waiting for you!”
I leaned into my window and looked down. There below were the clouds. Like mild sheep in a meadow, they appeared harmless, gentle and innocent, not for a moment looking like the formidable fighting, threatening forces we had fought our way through.
Just above the clouds the sun still shines, doesn’t it? How often we face treacherous, terrible days when we are buffeted around like nine pins on a bowling range. Bewildered and broken we cry out to everybody. We weep, we hit our heads in frustration, sometimes in anger against the wall, against huge problems, and feel they won’t go away.
But, do you hear the pilot say, “Hey, let’s fly together, up above the clouds!”
Most often we don’t because we are so caught up in wrestling with the situation. Imagine if the pilot in my airbus had looked at the clouds and incoming turbulence and said, “I’m going to fight you!”
He didn’t. He also didn’t fly downwards to land the plane and wait for a better day. If he had, I’d still be sitting at the Bangalore airport. No, he aimed his plane up, shot through clouds and sheets of rain, and out to the waiting sun.
It needed a good pilot to do that.
You need a good pilot to help you through too.
Stop fighting turbulence by yourself, let the Pilot take you through, and just above those clouds, is a peace that passes understanding. Calm, a blue sky, and a shining sun..!

  1. Whatever the turbulence may be, we have someone who is all powerful and merciful to fight it for us. All we have to do is head straight into it with faith. Lovely Bobby

  2. Great thought for the day to begin with. The pilot of our lives is always with us, if we listen to him, he guides us as we read in 1Jn 4:4.

  3. A great thought to begin the day. The pilot of our lives is always in control of our lives provided we are aware of it as we read in 1Jn 4:4.

  4. Jesus Saviour pilot me, is our prayer to enjoy peace that says,’It is well with my soul, ‘ as we consider the Light dispelling darkness of sorrow and ignorance. Omnipotent,Omnipresent and Omnipresent is our Creator, Master and God.

  5. Life is like a winding lane where sun and shadows blend.
In times of hardship and tribulations we should march on with courage and trust the Pilot who has the controls to lead us into the sunshine round the bend .

  6. Lovely analogy Bob to remind us of the Almighty Pilot who is in charge of our life’s journey. Trouble begins when we attempt to get into the driver’s seat and assume control thinking we can manage on our own. He knows it all and He knows best, so it only makes sense to surrender it all to Him.
