Just a Game of Chess..!

To a few top world leaders, the world seems to have transformed into a giant chessboard. With a calculated move here and a strategic gambit there, they shuffle their pieces, believing they are masters of the game. One chessboard they play on is the international arena, while the other is within their own countries, where their opposition and their people are reduced to mere pawns.

A pawn moves forward. That’s you and me. Another pawn falls, crushed beneath the weight of an economic decision, a political policy, or an international power play. And what do our leaders do? They smile smugly, whisper to their strategists, and plan their next move.

But one day, something strange happens.

The pieces on the chessboard begin to move. The pawns stagger to their feet, no longer wooden but alive, flesh and blood. Some are bloodied and many cry out in pain. They limp across the board, their eyes pleading for mercy.

Yet the leaders continue playing, ignoring the cries, focused only on their next cunning move.

Consider Ukraine, once a peaceful land where children played in schoolyards and old men sipped coffee on quiet balconies. Then, one day, a chess move was made. Tanks rolled in, rockets roared, and those children were no longer playing but hiding in basements or staring blankly at rubble that was once their homes.

Take a look closer home. Consider Manipur. Homes burnt, families displaced, and entire communities scarred. And yet, for the leaders, this too seemed nothing more than another calculated chess move. For them, the bloodied streets were just another patch on the board. The cries of the wounded, the silent suffering of the displaced—all ignored as the game went on.

And our youth? They excel in school, dream big, and aspire to innovate and build a better nation. But when policies favor power over progress, ambition over ability, and reservations over merit, that student’s future is sacrificed for yet another move in the endless game.

Pawns don’t bleed in chess, people do!

Pawns don’t cry out in pain, but families mourning loved ones do!

Pawns can be sacrificed without question, but real lives should not!

The tragedy is that these leaders, obsessed with their games, seem to forget they are no kings or queens in this world. Their thrones are temporary. Their victories fleeting. But the wounds they leave behind can last a lifetime.

One day, these very same people who were given the opportunity to lead, given the chance to change their world or country will be called before their Maker, then bound on giant fiery boards not just for one chess move, not for a game, or for a tournament but for all eternity, and then looking up will wonder at the looks of the very pawns they mistreated, whose eyes will look at them, not with revenge, but with sadness and yes, compassion…!

  1. The corrupt politicians gain power to subject the poor, the weak and the truthful to brutality to intimidate the common man who works hard, pays his taxes that’s misused by them. They grab lands to make them bonded labourers. They manipulate the elections in order to rule autonomously.God sees all.
