How to Become Tall..!

There was a friend of mine who was a good five-foot-nothing. A man with a Napoleon complex, always standing on tiptoes in photographs, buying elevator shoes, and stretching his neck like a giraffe hoping to look taller.

“Why don’t you just stand next to shorter people?” I suggested helpfully.

“There’s no one shorter!” he groaned.

That’s when I remembered Zacchaeus, the biblical tax collector who had the same problem. Now, here was a man of ambition. Not only did he collect taxes—often with a little extra for himself—but he was rich and powerful. Yet, when Jesus came to town, poor Zacchaeus realized his wealth couldn’t buy him a few inches of height. So, what did he do? He climbed a sycamore tree like a monkey with a purpose!

Picture it—this rich, pompous man scrambling up a tree just to see Jesus.

I bet people below had a good laugh. “Look at shorty on the tree, like a tiny, little flea!” they must have jeered. But Zacchaeus wasn’t bothered. Because sometimes, when you’re desperate to see the truth, you’ve got to climb above the crowd, above the noise, above the opinions of others.

Now, here’s the real twist: Jesus stops, looks up, and calls him down!

Of all the people in the crowd, He picks Zacchaeus—the most despised, corrupt man around—and invites Himself to his house for dinner! Can you imagine the scandal? The righteous people must have gasped in horror! “Jesus, of all the people, why HIM? He’s a crook, a tax collector, a shorty in more ways than one!”

But Jesus didn’t care about the labels people slapped on Zacchaeus. He saw something in him. And what happens next? Zacchaeus, who had spent a lifetime making himself “tall” with wealth, power, and dishonesty, suddenly realizes what true height is. He stands up—this time in spirit—and says, “Lord, I’ll give half my wealth to the poor, and if I’ve cheated anyone, I’ll pay them back four times over.”

Now that’s growth!

The world tells us to make ourselves tall—get rich, live in a mansion, drive a fancy car, step on others if necessary. But in God’s eyes, true height comes from character, humility, and a changed heart. Some of the “tallest” people in the world are actually quite short in integrity, while some of the so-called “shortest” stand tall with God in them.

So, do you have a Zacchaeus mentality? Feeling inadequate? Feeling like you don’t measure up? Well, good news! You don’t need to climb trees, wear high heels, or walk on stilts. Jesus sees you just as you are. And He’s calling you down—not to stay small, but to grow tall in the only way that matters.

So, my dear short (or tall) reader, don’t break your back trying to fit into the world’s standards. Instead, let Jesus step into your home, your heart, and your life.

That’s how you truly become tall—through Him..!
