Raise Your White Flag..!

There are two acts of surrender I’m going to portray below:

By the summer of 1945, the defeat of Japan was a foregone conclusion. And on July 16, a new option became available to the Allies when the United States secretly detonated the world’s first atomic bomb in the New Mexico desert. Ten days later, the Allies issued the Potsdam Declaration, demanding the “unconditional surrender of all the Japanese armed forces.” Failure to comply would mean “the inevitable and complete destruction of the Japanese armed forces and just as inevitable the utter devastation of the Japanese homeland.

Japan initially did not surrender, but after the Hiroshima bomb attack, a small fraction of Japan’s supreme war council favoured acceptance of the Potsdam Declaration, and then when a second U.S. atomic bomb was dropped on the Japanese coastal city of Nagasaki, Emperor Hirohito convened the supreme war council. After a long, emotional debate, he backed a proposal by Prime Minister Suzuki in which Japan accepted defeat

He ordered his Japanese government to prepare a text accepting absolute surrender.

And with that surrender World War ll came to an end.

What a humiliating defeat it was for Japan.

But there’s another surrender, a raising of the white flag which has been leaving people victorious.

And that’s a surrender, which was not spoken by a general from some warship, but by a carpenter’s son who was born in a manger two thousand years ago. Born in the poorest of circumstances so that He could experience a life of poverty and then go to the very ones around him and say with the knowledge He’d gained by living on earth that there was only one way forward, and that was surrender.

“Surrender?” the people asked.

“Yes,” he said in more or less similar words, “You cannot live on this earth using your own will. You will go through despair and depression, rejection and humiliation even if you were to make money.

There’s only one way, “Raise a white flag to God!”

In Luke 9: 23-24, Jesus says that to be his follower, one must surrender their life for his sake, give up their own way, take up their cross daily, and follow him. And when one does this they will save their life and not lose it.

In other words, without God, everyday is a losing battle.

We were created to surrender. Instead of doing so, we decided to fight the day with our flimsy weapons which are like toy guns against the enemy armed with worse than atomic bombs.

“Just raise your white flag!” said Jesus, the earthly carpenter’s son who was actually God, “and be a winner!”

Ah well, you can be like the Emperor who raised his white flag in defeat or heed God’s call, and raise yours towards a victorious life..!

  1. Jesus Christ is omnipotent So to be victors we must surrender to His will as He did to God’s to be armed by the Holy Spirit as His army if we choose Him over His foe, Satan who threatens us with death.
