Have you ever heard choirs, whose melodious voices bring tears of joy into your eyes?
As if the windows of heaven have opened and you get glimpses of pure glory and supreme ecstasy!
Well, it’s the Christmas Season and choirs all over are producing these wonderfully ecstatic moments.
Moments produced through near divine harmony!
This Christmas, listen to harmony. Harmony happens when all the voices in a choir be they ten or a hundred blend together to produce a beautiful chord. Harmony cannot happen when one voice tries to overpower another. Harmony is lost when you have a sound man who doesn’t know music and gives the altos more sound than the sopranos, or tenors more volume than the basses.
Harmony comes through absolute balance.
Balance most often than not starts right from the source. The singers themselves have to see they sing with their mouths and listen with their ears. If they shut their ears, which I’ve seen many choir members do, they have cut off adjusting to others and sing only for themselves.
Harmonious singing requires both mouths and ears to be open.
And then from such choral voices will flow music that will move audiences into a heavenly state of joy and bliss.
Have you ever thought as you hear choirs this Christmas season, that this is the way God wants us to live here on earth? That even as the heavenly choir sang to shepherds in the fields there was a double message; one that the messiah was born, and second that this was a lesson to teach the world how to live.
The poor shepherds, I doubt, had ever heard a choir before, but the music so moved them, they rushed to find the source of the joy the angels had within, which was the babe in the manger.
That source of joy, the same Babe, should produce in us, a spirit of adjustment and balance. As a family, as a church, a society, a nation, and as people of the world, we should start using our lives to speak out even as we listen to what others around us are saying.
Imagine living our lives like choristers: Softening our voices so others can be heard. Listening to the voices of other parts, so that our own will blend to form a chord.
Imagine, looking up at the Conductor. Watching His expressions, so we express ourselves the way He wishes.
Imagine getting our notes from the music score; our Bible!
Listen to choirs this season, but even as you do, take back with you a deeper lesson than the words the songwriters wrote. That choral harmony could be a wonderful way to live our lives, attuned, adjusted and balanced with each other.
And then, just imagine, what a rapturous, rhapsody of choral music our lives will produce together, as a family, church, society or nation…!
