Permit me to imagine a conversation in the heavenly realms, as Thomas gets up and decides to do a morning walk with his Master. Jesus looks at his frown and chuckles, “Still bothered with that are you?” Thomas gives a half a grin back and mutters, “I can’t figure out how I mucked it up Lord! There I was seeing you every single day, healing the sick, giving sight to the blind, even raising Lazarus from the grave and then I couldn’t believe you rose from the grave?”

Jesus smiles and ruffles Thomas’s hair, “It happens Thomas, it happens, just have a look at what’s happening down there in the world!”

Thomas peers down and sees a church service where a hundred believers are raising their hands in worship, “What a magnificent sight Lord!”

“Yes Thomas, now let me allow you to see what’s in their minds!” says Jesus and Thomas muffles a groan “Look at that man, there’s doubt rising from him!”

“And can you imagine I just healed his wife last week!”

“And Lord even the priest is looking furtively at the door! Why?”

“He’s scared that miscreants from fringe groups will come in and disrupt the service, and do you know something Thomas, just have a look at what their Bible reading was!”

“It’s Palm 91!” whispers Thomas.

“Which talks about..” asks the Master, quizzing Thomas gently.

“Not being afraid at all!” said Thomas looking puzzled.

“Yes,” says Jesus, “Just a moment before, the whole congregation stood and read the Psalm together, they stood in reverence for the words from the Holy scriptures, and within a few minutes fear has returned!”

“The same thing happened to me Lord!”

“Then what did I tell you?”

“To feel the places where the nails had pierced!”

“Which is what I need people to understand!” says the Lord, “That only by feeling my presence in their midst, only by knowing that I am there with them, can they eliminate fear and doubt and every other emotion that raises its head against faith!”

“I can feel your presence Lord!” whispers Thomas.

“Yes Thomas, I am right here beside you,” laughs a joyous Lord, “But that is what every single one of my believers needs to believe says Jesus looking down at you and me, that you need to ‘Fear not for I am with you, be not dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you. I will uphold you with my righteous hand!”

In that church suddenly, a pastor stops looking at the door, as he feels God’s presence!

Jesus and Thomas in my imagination look down, smile and continue with their stroll somewhere in the realms of heaven..!
