Prime Minister Daniel..!

Just imagine, in the middle of today’s Israeli-Iran war, reading from the scriptures, that once upon a time an Israeli slave became the chief administrator, or prime minister in what we now call Iran. Not a consultant. Not an advisor. A slave. And yet, running the empire!

Enter the Jewish slave, Daniel, a man who had neither connections nor campaigns, but something far more dangerous in public life. A clean record.

The Bible puts it bluntly in Daniel 6:4. “They could find no corruption in him, because he was trustworthy and neither corrupt nor negligent.” Not corrupt. Not negligent. In today’s world, that alone could disqualify a man from public life.

His enemies did what enemies do best. They investigated him thoroughly. Files were checked, records examined, perhaps even his grocery bills scrutinised. Nothing. No scandal, no leak, no whisper. Imagine the disappointment.

When they could find nothing wrong, they decided to make something right into something wrong. If they could not trap his conduct, they would trap his convictions. So they outlawed prayer. Sounds closely familiar, doesn’t it?

When you cannot catch the man in wrongdoing, make his goodness illegal.

And poor King Darius the Mede, who probably signed the order thinking it was just another routine file, suddenly realised he had trapped his best man with his own law. The system could not bend. The law could not change. And so the most honest man in the kingdom was thrown into a den of lions.

But here is the uncomfortable part. Daniel did not just rush to God saying, ‘if God be for us, who can be against us!’ as many of us suddenly do. It was God who rushed to him.

We all love the miracle. Lions with locked jaws. Kings losing sleep. Morning rescues. It makes for powerful storytelling. But the verse we quietly skip is the one that comes before the miracle. That he was ‘Neither corrupt nor negligent.’

No shortcuts. No quiet compromises. No bending when nobody is watching.

So when scrutiny came, there was nothing to find. Not because the investigation was weak, but because the man was strong.

And that is the challenge. If you want God to shut the mouths of lions while the ED scrutinises you, while unjust laws are passed in our country to crucify minorities, then live a life where even your enemies have to get creative to accuse you.

Because history does not just record that a man survived lions. It records that a slave became the highest authority in a foreign land.

And in today’s scenario: An Israeli Prime Minister of Iran!

Now look at our own country, then look at your hands. Clean? If yes, then like Daniel, the sky is the limit..!
