Burying a Religious Symbol…!

So, there I was, casually scrolling through my social media feed—dodging the usual political fireworks, a dozen “inspirational” reels from people who clearly need inspiration themselves—when I stumbled upon a gem: a video of a man burying an open Bible at the entrance of his home.

Yes, burying. Like treasure.

And not just any page—he’d carefully selected a Psalm of protection. He wanted divine security, it seemed, right at his doorstep. Perhaps he hoped burglars would trip over the holy book, or maybe demons would see the corner of Psalm 91 sticking out of the mud and say, “Oops, wrong house!”

Now, I’m not one to mock another man’s faith. But I do chuckle—lovingly—at our desperate attempts to turn the sacred into superstition. You see, burying a Bible like a landmine doesn’t trigger heavenly protection. If anything, God might be peeking down, nudging an angel and saying, “That’s not what I meant when I said hide my Word in your heart!”

We Indians, of course, are professionals at turning faith into ritual. We apply sacred ash and then yell at our spouses. We light incense and then curse at the traffic. We wear rings with holy symbols and raise our fists in road rage. So burying a Bible at the gate? It’s just another creative chapter in our ongoing saga of ‘religious jugaad’—a spiritual shortcut.

But here’s the real irony: The man had his Bible open! As if the open pages would allow the Psalm to breathe through the soil and whisper heavenly chants to every delivery boy and stray dog that crossed his compound. “Yea, though you bring Amazon parcels through the valley of the shadow of death, fear no evil…”

Let’s get real, dear reader. The Bible is not some spiritual scarecrow for warding off bad vibes. It’s not a burglar alarm, nor a raincoat against curses. It’s a living word. Living. And for anything living to work, it needs to be inside you. Not under the floor tiles.

Protection doesn’t come from pages but from the Person behind those pages. It comes when those words leap off the paper and plant themselves deep inside you—right there, in that cluttered, chaotic place we call the heart.

That’s when the Psalm sings to you in the storm. That’s when faith becomes armor—not the book in your hand, but the belief that burns like fire in your soul.

So no, burying a Bible or any religious book or religious statue or writing won’t protect your home. But reading it, understanding it, and letting it challenge the way you live—that will change your life.

Till then, if you’re burying anything at the gate, make it bad habits—not holy books. And yes, maybe read that Psalm, meditate on it, pray about it, before you reach for the shovel…!

  1. Yes, True!
It’s the living Word that transforms us from within, not a physical object meant for protection.

  2. You nailed it. A lot of insight to a buried Bible. You see sent the point straight home. It should be buried in your heart and deeds.
