It happens every Sunday. The bold are bustling, the extroverts elbowing, and the spiritually self-assured are busy sitting in the front pews as if God had given out VIP passes.
And there, somewhere in the shadows of stained glass and holier than thou looks, is that quiet someone.
You’ve seen them, haven’t you? The ones who slip in just as the opening hymn starts, and slip out before the last “Amen” echoes through the church walls.
And I often wonder—how many of them believe they don’t fit in church leadership? That they’re not spiritual enough, not eloquent enough, or simply not enough?
Well, let me tell you something: if ever there was a recruitment ad for heaven’s workforce, it would read, “Wanted: Weak, Foolish, Despised. Apply Within. No experience required.”
You don’t believe me? Go look at the fine print in 1 Corinthians 1:26-31. Paul practically writes God’s hiring policy there. “Not many of you were wise by human standards,” he says, rather cheekily. “Not many were influential, not many were of noble birth.” Which, translated in modern terms, might read: “Not many of you went to Bible college, knew all the verses by heart, or were chairman of the parish council!”
Instead, God picks the weak to shame the strong.
He picks the ones the world despises to flatten those who strut their pedigree like peacocks in a puddle. It’s the divine version of choosing the quiet kid in class to win a public speaking contest!
And why would God do that? To confuse the wise? Embarrass the powerful? Not really. He does it so that no one can stand up and say, “I did it all by myself!”—not even the one with a doctorate in divinity or a booming voice that can stir a revival in a graveyard.
The glory, you see, has to go to Him.
Not to the three-piece-suited sermonizer or the one who knows the Greek word for “repent.” And especially not to those who walk around with an “I’m God’s favourite” smirk.
So, to the timid ones, the shy worshippers, the ones who feel their prayers bounce off the church ceiling—I write this to you. You who think you’re too mild, too soft-spoken, too… unremarkable. Heaven isn’t looking for celebrities. Heaven’s looking for servants. For someone who whispers in prayer, “I’m ready. Use me.” That whisper, my friend, shakes hell more than any pulpit-pounder.
Because the kingdom of God has never been built on credentials. It’s been built on availability. Not ability.
And if you don’t believe me, just look at the disciples Jesus chose to change the world—fishermen, tax collectors, doubters and deniers. The discards of society!
Not exactly the A-team. But with Him, they turned the world upside down.
So next time you think you’re not enough, remember—you are exactly what God is looking for; that you are just enough for God..!
