Wronged Numbers..!

And finally the number game is over and the fate of government decided. India stopped breathing for a month and we poor vassals watched aghast as rulers auctioned themselves to highest bidder. You thinkin’ it had to do with Nuclear Deal? Oh no! T’ was nothing to do with future of the country, nothing to do with American Imperialism; my friend come closer and let me whisper in your ear; it was to do with numbers!

Fifty crores, I hear was the number.

                             Who won today paid more.

Drifts of conversation everyday: “How much they pay you?”

“Fifteen crores!”

“Fifteen? I get paid fifty!”

“Fifty?” And again another dinner with Sonia, breakfast with Advani and differences and difference was settled. Some difference huh between fifteen and fifty?

Numbers not just in Parliament, numbers in hospital wards, and numbers in jail cells!

“Ward No 19, bed no. 3, you are wanted in Delhi!”

“But doctor my heart surgery is tomorrow!”

“Sorry operation postponed, off you go! Carry your heart in your mouth!”

And in jails across the country:

“Prisoner No 10! Again call for Prisoner No 10!”

“Yes warden sahib, what I do wrong sir! I no want solitary confinement sir!”

“Pack your bags MP, you’re off to Delhi and while you’re at it, inform, prisoner 7 and 39 and 61 and 77!”

And from jails, hospitals, and from across the seas and hopefully if Govinda made it, from film sets, crucial numbers marched to register crucial vote.

“MPji what you think of nuclear deal?”

                            “No- clear deal?”

                            “Nuclear deal!”

                            “What you saying?”

But the biggest number is one billion Indians!

One billion fools. Fools who’ve watched this charade, this tamasha played time and again, who’ve watched days passing with no decisions made, watched country moving from prosperity back to poverty and elected members, leaping from poverty to prosperity.

By now you know who’s won, but who’s lost is you and me; we’re like wrong number dialed; exasperation when our voice is heard, and no apology given for nuisance created!

We the people are the wronged numbers..!
