Very often in India we hear a particular state is coming under President’s Rule or is being considered for the same, let me explain what this means to those who may be under the wrong impression of what it implies:

                             This does not mean that our esteemed President will leave the confines of her palace in Delhi and start ruling the errant state, oh no the President will continue tending her rose garden at Rashtrapathi Bhavan, continue inspecting her cavalry and serving tea to retired politicians who happen to be in Delhi, she will continue inviting children to be photographed with her and continue inviting all her different relatives to come and stay with her so that all the hundred and odd rooms in the palace will not get mildewed and decay and all the servants, gardeners, cooks, bearers and barbers will be kept fully occupied and not loitering around picking up stray gossip which they would otherwise pass along to a rather disinterested media.

                           So what does Presidents rule imply politically

                            President’s rule means you suddenly have politicians unsure whether they will be ministers in the next cabinet, unsure whether they will have to face the electorate again, and unsure whether they are allowed to use their official Ambassador car.

                         What does President’s Rule mean for the people?”

                           It means you will have a cleaner city since politicians won’t be spitting paan and betel nut leftovers all over, you will have less traffic jams as there will be fewer cars with beacons and you may even find policemen to guard you as hundreds of them who have been guarding VIP’s suddenly find their masters are VIP”s no more!

                         You will find garbage being lifted, roads repaired faster, drainage cleaned, rivers dredged and potholes filled!

                          You know there’s Presidents’ Rule when such takes place.

                          Like I said at the beginning this article is for information purposes only though many of you seem surprised how so much progress takes place with no Chief Minister in power and the President still in her rose garden?

                         So your next question will be, why have politicians if the country advances without them?

                          Tut, tut, a rather impertinent question wouldn’t you say? Would you have tabloids with no scandals, TV with no sting operations, newspapers with no scoops? Would you have the rose garden in the President’s palace dry up with no one to tend the roses?
