My friend P.K Bole, now retired from government service and ready to join politics was talking to my driver when I walked to my car. My driver turned to me, “Car not starting sir, I’ll open the bonnet and check!”

                        I nodded as P.K carefully took me aside and whispered, “He’s bluffing! It’s just a diversionary tactic!”

“Diversionary tactic?” I asked incredulously.

“Didn’t he jump a red light yesterday? He thinks you’re going to yell at him, so this is to make you forget the enormity of his crime! If not for Sushma Swaraj, like you I would never have caught on!”

“Aha!” I said.

“We are so lucky to have someone like Sushma,” said P.K, shaking his head at me, “What a shrewd mind; to figure out bomb blasts were just tactics to focus our minds away from Parliament’s bribery scandal! What sharp thinking! Did you feel the earthquake last night Bob?”

“Some people did,” I admitted.

“Another..”
”Diversionary tactic!” I completed, “but divert from what?”

“It was a low intensity earthquake so just a state sponsored diversion,” shrugged P.K, knowingly, “Maybe planned to make you forget potholes and flooding!”

“Or power cuts and impending energy crisis?” I asked.

“No that needs a biggy!”

“A biggy?”

“A 4.2 earthquake on the Richter scale is too small a diversion for looming energy crisis, according to her you’ll need a bigger diversion for that. Sharp and shrewd huh?”

“Who Sushma?”

“Who else? To think we’ve been fooled for years! You know why the Surat bombs were planted? Because we were thrashed by Sri Lanka! She will go far, this woman, maybe the next prime minister!” 

                         My driver beckoned me to come, “He’s going to say the car is kaput, the engine is dead!” whispered P.K. “All clever tactics! Don’t get fooled Bob, tell him you can see through his bluff, that you’ve learnt how to handle such situations from..”

“Sushma!” I completed as P.K beamed at me.

“Car’s okay sir, lets go!” said my driver.

“Maybe Sushma isn’t that sharp n’ shrewd after all!” I yelled as I drove away leaving a gaping, bewildered P.K behind.

“Silly n’ stupid’, sounds better sir..!” said my driver grinning at me through rear view mirror.
